Yak-n-Yarn is a group of crafters who meet twice a month, once for a Service Sunday usually on the first Sunday of the month, where we either all work on a similar project for a particular charity, or collect items made for charity, and once for UFO Night on the third Friday night of the month, where we work on UnFinished Objects. The group is open to any and all crafters of any skill level. We have a few members who are particularly experienced in knitting and crocheting, and are willing to help those who are interested in learning these needle arts. Those who are interested in learning to knit or crochet are encouraged to join us, and must bring their own worsted weight acrylic yarn in desired color, and either size 10 knitting needles or a size J crochet hook. Examples of UFO projects that have been worked on include hand sewing, melt-and-pour soapmaking, knitting, crocheting, tied fleece blankets, plastic canvas needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, latchhooking, scrapbooking and cardmaking. Service projects have included making an afghan for the Youth Group's Invisible Children raffle, sewing pillowcases for Mutual Ground, knitting and crocheting squares that were made into afghans for the earthquake victims in Haiti, knitting and crocheting scarves for the HeartScarves Project, and making cards for the troops through From Our Hearts. Grab your project, a snack to share and beverage to drink, and a friend or two, and join us for fun and fellowship! For more information, please contact Jan Reardon and Barb Kayer |
