What to expect in the classroom:
Within each classroom, children will experience large group meetings, small group exploratory centers, and individual teacher time. Throughout each week, children will learn though guided play, process art, hands on activities, and interactive programs. Our goal is to help students achieve the benchmarks set by the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (a precursor to the Common Core Standards for school aged children). Students are challenged each day within their capabilities and learn through guided play at their developmentally appropriate levels.
Higher Education Standards:
At Little Shepherd Preschool, children are introduced to content areas such as letters, numbers and colors through an integrated approach. What this means is that we work the learning experience into multiple activities throughout the day. These activities include the use of the Jolly Phonics program, our gross motor room, the interactive white board, process art, guided play, and the hands on activities. Assessment are done with each child three times per year, and our emphasis on fostering creativity and problem solving, all help children to be successful and begin a lifetime love of learning!
